FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Sophomore Jade Reid earned All-Region honors for the Coconino Community College women’s Cross Country team, placing 13th in the women’s 5K at the NJCAA Region 1 Championships, which doubled as the ACCAC Championships, on Friday in Tucson.
Wet conditions gave way to lightning, and officials stopped the women’s race roughly two miles into the 5K. The race was not restarted. Instead, results were tallied using each runner’s position at the time of the delay, and no finishing times were recorded.
At that point in the race, Reid was running 13th, which held as her official place and put her inside the All-Region cutoff. She finished just behind Southern Nevada’s Sienna Maisano (12th) and ahead of Pima CC’s Mayte Navarro (14th) and Damira Allen (15th).
Reid’s All-Region finish came against a field that included nationally ranked programs from #1 Mesa, #2 Pima, and #6 Southern Nevada, making it a standout individual result for the Comets.
CCC’s Lillie Dyer, Saige Sloan, Uriah Garcia, Bailey Cunyus, and Haley Johnson also represented the Comets at Friday’s Championships. They were gradually building momentum and moving up through the field when the race was stopped abruptly.
The Comets will have a chance to show their full strength on November 14th in Huntsville, AL as they toe the line at the NJCAA National Championships.
