FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The Coconino Community College men’s Cross Country team turned in a strong showing on Saturday at the Embry-Riddle Arizona Invitational, finishing second as a team over the 8,000-meter course at ERAU’s home course, trailing only host Embry-Riddle in a five-team field.
The Comets finished with 68 points, ahead of Glendale CC (76), Arizona Christian (92), and Tohono O’odham CC (140), while Embry-Riddle’s deep roster claimed the team title with 17 points.
Freshman Ian Masayesva was the top finisher for Coconino, crossing the line in 26:55 to finish fourth overall — the top non-Embry-Riddle finisher in the race and a strong follow-up to his performance at the George Kyte Classic.
Brandon Joe, also a freshman, backed him up with a 10th-place finish in 27:34, giving the Comets two runners inside the top 10 of a competitive field.
Cedric Johnson continued his strong start to the season, finishing in 29:26, followed by Rylan Bia in 30:24 and Will Nez in 30:53, rounding out Coconino CC’s scoring five.
Mckennon Begay, Jayden Albert, and Sabino Chatter also competed for the Comets, continuing to build depth on the roster as the season progresses.
