Flagstaff, Ariz. – The Coconino Community College women’s cross country team put together one of their strongest performances of the season at the Tri-State Challenge in Las Vegas on September 26, with sophomore Cian Davis leading the way.
Davis finished fourth overall in the women’s 5K with a time of 19:39.2, placing just behind competitors from Canyons, Hartnell, and Long Beach. Her effort once again highlighted her consistency at the front of the pack this season.
Freshman Haley Johnson made her season debut, crossing in 13th place at 21:01.4, while sophomore Nizhoni Johnson finished 21st in 21:33.9. Temyra Bia followed close behind in 22nd with 21:48.9, and Peyton Yazzie rounded out the scoring five with a 28th-place finish in 22:49.9.
Additional depth came from Faylee Howe (33rd, 24:21.3), Nevaeh Barlow (35th, 24:39.2), Leah Redondo (38th, 25:51.0), and Deondra Ashley (41st, 27:31.6).
Coach Craig Hunt emphasized the team’s ability to compete against tough competition:
“Cian ran another outstanding race, and Haley stepped up big for us today. We’ve got a strong core group and it’s exciting to see the pack closing the gap each week.”
The Comets’ depth and steady progress continue to build momentum heading into October’s Highlander Invitational in Riverside, California.
