Flagstaff, Ariz.   – The Coconino Community College men’s cross country team returned to Prescott on Saturday for the Embry-Riddle Invitational, posting several personal bests and showing growth compared to last fall’s effort on the same course.

Sophomore Theodore Round Face led the Comets with an 8th-place finish in 27:57.01, marking a nearly one-minute improvement from his freshman performance at the meet in 2023 (28:53.1). Fellow sophomore Zach Biah also made strides, clocking 29:51.85 to place 18th after finishing 38th in last year’s race.

Freshmen Harrison Kessenich (37:38.29) and Sabino Chatter (39:23.00) gained valuable experience in their first 8K collegiate race, rounding out the Comets racers.

While CCC competed with a smaller roster this time around, holding out some key runners, the improvements at the front of the pack were evident.

Head Coach Craig Hunt pointed to the steady development of his sophomores as a bright spot.

“Theo and Zach are both running with more confidence this season, and that showed today. Their progress from a year ago reflects the work they’ve put in and sets the tone for the rest of our group.”

The men will continue their season on September 26 at the CSN Tri-State Challenge in Las Vegas, looking to further sharpen before championship racing in October.
