Flagstaff, Ariz. – The Coconino Community College women’s cross country opened up their 2022 season at the George Kyte Classic hosted by Northern Arizona University.

For the first time ever the CCC comets successfully produced a scoring team. The comets were led by freshman Hayley Burns with a 6th place finish in a time of 16:45 over the 2.5 mile distance. Burns’ time placed her over 20 seconds in front of the 2021 NJCAA National runner-up, Kate Brockman, who finished 9th.

CCC’s Whitney James finished 23rd followed by Julia Clarke in 27th. The Comets fourth and fifth runners were Nevaeh Scott and Breana Biggambler in 31st and 38th place. Teammates Niki McCabe and Madison McCabe also competed. Their team score of 85 was good enough to earn them 4th place.

Fort Lewis College won the Open Division with 29 points. Northern Arizona University won the NCAA Division I section with 16 points.

CCC’s cross country teams will compete next at the Vaquero CAMPY Invitational in Coolidge, Arizona on September 10th.
