Men’s Cross Country Caps Off Inaugural Season at NJCAA Nationals

Full Results Richmond, Va. – The Coconino Community College men’s cross country team capped off their inaugural season at the NJCAA DII National Championships at Pole Green Park in Richmond, Virgina. Freshman Mauricio Gonzalez raced over the 8k distance against 220 other competitors. Gonzalez placed 172nd in a new school record of 31:06. Gonzalez improved his own school record previously set at 32:02. Gonzalez became the first CCC male cross country runner to compete at the NJCAA National Championships. “This was the first of hopefully many trips to the national championships for CCC. Being able to provide this experience for our student-athletes and see them succeed is priceless. The athletes today are laying the foundation for future athletes at CCC”, said Head Coach Craig Hunt. Cowley College won the team title with 82 points. Daytona State College finished second with 102 points. Heartland Community College placed third with 115 points.

Gonzalez Breaks 8k School Record at Region I Championships

Full Results Glendale, Ariz. – Coconino Community College’s Mauricio Gonzalez breaks his own school record at NJCAA Regional Championships. The Comets competed at the NJCAA Region I championships where Gonzalez continued to improve placing 21st overall and ran a personal best time of 32:02 over 8k. Gonzalez took 45 seconds off of his own school record set on October 1st. Freshman Levi Conery finished in 26th place with a time of 40:11. Paradise Valley Community College won the team title with 27 points. The Comets will compete next at the NJCAA National Championships in Richmond, Virginia at Pole Green Park on November 13th.

Men Compete at Vaquero CAMPY Invitational

Full Results Coolidge, Ariz. – The Coconino Community College men’s cross country competed at the 2021 Vaquero CAMPY Invitational hosted by Central Arizona College. The comets were led by freshman Mauricio Gonzalez finishing in 60th place. His teammates were not far behind as Noah Rhoden and Levi Conery placed 61st, and 62nd respectively. Both Rhoden and Conery improved upon their 8k season best times. Conery made the biggest improvement by taking over 9 minutes off his previous best performance. Central Arizona College won the team title with 20 points. The men’s cross country team will compete next on October 29th at the NJCAA Region I Championships hosted at Heroes Park in Glendale, Arizona.

Gonzalez Leads Comets at ACCAC Championships

Full Results Gilbert, Ariz. – Coconino Community College’s Mauricio Gonzalez leads the comets at the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Championships. The comets competed at their first ever ACCAC Championships at Freestone Park in Gilbert, Arizona. Gonzalez led his team with a 47th place finish over the 8k cross country course. CCC’s Noah Rhoden placed 57th and Levi Conery closed out the racers with a 59th place showing. Gonzalez’s time of 32:47 officially established a men’s 8k school record. Mesa Community College won the team title with 33 points. The comets will compete next at the Vaquero CAMPY Invitational hosted by Central Arizona College on October 9th.

Men’s Cross Country Opens Inaugural Season at George Kyte Classic

Full Results Flagstaff, Ariz. – Coconino Community College kicked off its inaugural cross country season at the George Kyte Classic. Northern Arizona University hosted 9 colleges and universities at the George Kyte invitational at Buffalo Park in Flagstaff, Arizona. In front of a home crowd CCC cross country toed the starting line for the very first time in school history. In total 6 comets competed in uniform for both the men’s and women’s team. The men were led by freshman Mauricio Gonzalez who placed 67th in the open section. CCC’s Noah Rhoden was the second comet to cross the finish line in 72nd place. Levi Conery also competed but did not finish the race. The comets compete next at the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Championships at Freestone Park in Gilbert, Arizona on October 1st.
