Flagstaff, Ariz. – The Coconino Community College men’s cross country team showed their progress this season with a strong outing at the Tri-State Challenge, hosted by College of Southern Nevada at Floyd Lamb Park in Las Vegas on September 26.
Sophomore Theodore Round Face continued his breakout season, placing fifth overall in the men’s 8K with a time of 26:12.9. His performance put him among the top collegiate finishers in a competitive field that included runners from Hartnell, College of the Canyons, Long Beach, and host CSN.
Close behind was sophomore Zach Biah, who turned in an impressive run of his own with a 12th-place finish in 26:57.2. Veteran Kenneth Nez added valuable depth, crossing the line in 30th place at 28:25.9, while freshman Harrison Kessenich clocked 30:25.8 for 45th and Sabino Chatter finished in 36:48.0.
The Comets’ effort was highlighted by Round Face’s leadership and the continued improvements from the rest of the squad. Head Coach Craig Hunt praised his team’s resilience.
“Theo continues to race fearlessly against some of the top programs in the region, and Zach had one of his best races of the year. We’re showing steady growth each meet, and that’s exactly what we want at this point in the season.”
CCC will look to carry this momentum into October as they prepare for the Highlander Invitational at UC Riverside.
