Coolidge, Ariz. – The Coconino Community College men’s cross country team made history by producing the first team score in school history and placing 6th overall.
In cross country, in order to produce a team score you need five individual runners to cross the finish line. Before today CCC men’s cross country, at most, had only had four runners compete in a race. Today marks a milestone in the program’s history as the Comets had five individual runners race in the Vaquero CAMPY Invite at Central Arizona College. The Comets produced a team score of 157 and averaged 31:13 over the 8k distance.
The scoring squad consisted of student-athletes Damon Attakai, Damien Clark, Kevin Pawesiema Jr., Alisseo Honahni, and Tristyn Hatch. Attakai was CCC’s top runner in a time of 28:33 breaking the previous school record of 31:06 set by Mauricio Gonzalez last year at the National Championships.
Mesa Community College won as a team with a score of 36 points.
The comets will next compete at the Mesa College XC Jamboree in Mesa, Arizona on October 1st.
