Flagstaff, Ariz. – Coconino Community College‘s women’s cross country team, currently ranked #15 nationally, took part in the Arizona Invitational hosted by Embry Riddle Aeronautical University on September 7, 2024.
The Comet’s top finisher was freshman Cian Davis who placed 9th overall. The warm weather and rolling hills presented a challenging course, but Davis was able to race strong and finish in a time of 22:08 over the 5k distance.
Davis was the first junior college finisher, out-pacing competition from Mesa Community College, Estrella Mountain Community College, Phoenix Community College and Glendale Community College. EMAU and Arizona Christian University were also in attendance.
Freshman Peyton Yazzie was the second Comet to cross the finish line in a time of 24:24. She was followed closely by teammates Nizhoni Johnson and Leah Redondo. Deondra Ashley rounded out the top five scores for CCC.
The Comets placed 4th overall as a team with a score of 100. The meet was won by EMAU with a score of 17. CCC cross country will be back in action on Friday, September 27, at the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Championships.
