CCC Women Earn Third at ACCAC and Region 1 Championships, Eye Nationals

Flagstaff, Ariz. – The Coconino Community College women’s cross country team turned in a strong performance at the ACCAC and NJCAA Region 1 Championships on Friday morning at Crossroads Park in Gilbert, Arizona, finishing third overall against a competitive field that included Mesa, Paradise Valley, Tohono O’odham, Estrella Mountain, Phoenix College, and Glendale Community Colleges.

Sophomore Cian Davis once again led the charge for the Comets, placing eighth overall with a time of 20:00.8. Her eighth-place finish earned her second team All-Conference and second team All-Region.

Behind her, Nizhoni Johnson finished 17th in 22:36.4, with Temyra Bia close behind in 19th at 22:40.7. Freshman Haley Johnson posted another consistent effort, taking 21st in 23:18.8. All three individuals earned All-Conference Honorable Mention. Leah Redondo rounded out CCC’s scoring five in 26th at 24:44.5. Peyton Yazzie and Nevaeh Barlow completed the lineup, finishing 27th and 30th, respectively.

“This was one of our most complete team efforts of the season,” said Head Coach Craig Hunt. “The women competed with toughness from start to finish, and it’s exciting to see the progress we’ve made heading into nationals.”

With the NJCAA Division II National Championships set for November 8 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the Comets will now shift their focus toward representing CCC on the national stage.
