Two Women Earn NJCAA All-Region

Full Results Glendale, Ariz. – Coconino Community College competed at the NJCAA Region I Championships with two athletes earning All-Region honors. The Comets took on runners from across the regional at the NJCAA Region I Championships hosted at Heroes Park in Glendale, Arizona. CCC was led by freshman Shaelyn Honahni with a 5th place finish. Teammate Katlyn Potter was close behind placing 8th. Niki McCabe was CCC’s third runner in 16th. Honahni and Potter each earned All-Region honors by placing in the top 15. Honahni and Potter are the first two student-athletes to earn All-Region honors in school history. Mesa Community College won the team title with 17 points. Next, the comets will compete at the NJCAA National Championships on November 13 at Pole Green Park in Richmond, Virginia.

Gonzalez Breaks 8k School Record at Region I Championships

Full Results Glendale, Ariz. – Coconino Community College’s Mauricio Gonzalez breaks his own school record at NJCAA Regional Championships. The Comets competed at the NJCAA Region I championships where Gonzalez continued to improve placing 21st overall and ran a personal best time of 32:02 over 8k. Gonzalez took 45 seconds off of his own school record set on October 1st. Freshman Levi Conery finished in 26th place with a time of 40:11. Paradise Valley Community College won the team title with 27 points. The Comets will compete next at the NJCAA National Championships in Richmond, Virginia at Pole Green Park on November 13th.

Women’s Cross Country Competes at ACU Invite

Full Results Glendale, Ariz. – Coconino Community College competed at the ACU Invite in Glendale, Arizona as a tune up for their regional championships. The Comets had two individuals compete at Arizona Christian University in the 5k distance. Shaelyn Honahni once again led the comets with a 6th place finish and a time of 20:21. Honahni’s time averages out to be 6:33 per mile and was only 7 seconds off of her school record she set earlier this season. Teammate Katlyn Potter also competed and placed 12th. Potter covered the 5k distance in 20:50, her fastest time of the season so far. The comets used this race as a tune up race ahead of the NJCAA Region I Championships on October 29th. The regional championships will be held at Heroes Park in Glendale, Arizona.

Honahni Breaks Women’s 5k School Record

Full Results Coolidge, Ariz. – Coconino Community College’s Shaelyn Honahni breaks the women’s 5k school record and finished top ten at Vaquero CAMPY Invitational. Honahni lowered her own school record by 39 seconds, bringing it from 20:53 down to 20:14. Her time was good enough to finish 10th among 41 competitors. CCC’s Katlyn Potter 21:04 to finish 16th overall. Niki McCabe was the third comet to cross the finish line in 24:08, placing her 34th. Central Arizona College won the invitational with a perfect score of 15. Coconino Community College will compete next at the ACU Invite in Glendale, Arizona on the campus of Arizona Christian University.

Men Compete at Vaquero CAMPY Invitational

Full Results Coolidge, Ariz. – The Coconino Community College men’s cross country competed at the 2021 Vaquero CAMPY Invitational hosted by Central Arizona College. The comets were led by freshman Mauricio Gonzalez finishing in 60th place. His teammates were not far behind as Noah Rhoden and Levi Conery placed 61st, and 62nd respectively. Both Rhoden and Conery improved upon their 8k season best times. Conery made the biggest improvement by taking over 9 minutes off his previous best performance. Central Arizona College won the team title with 20 points. The men’s cross country team will compete next on October 29th at the NJCAA Region I Championships hosted at Heroes Park in Glendale, Arizona.

Honahni, Potter Earn All-ACCAC Honors

Full Results Gilbert, Ariz. – The Coconino Community College women’s cross country team competed at the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Championships at Freestone park in Gilbert, Arizona. The comets were led by freshman Shaelyn Honahni with her 11th place finish and 5k time of 20:53. Honahni’s time of 20:53 is now officially the established CCC school record. Teammate Katlyn Potter ran an impressive race as well finishing 17th in a time of 21:51. Both Honahni and Potter were awarded All-ACCAC honors for placing within the top 21 competitors. CCC’s Niki McCabe placed 35th overall. Central Arizona College won the team competition with 29 points. The Comets will next race at the Vaquero CAMPY Invitational hosted by Central Arizona College on October 9th.

Gonzalez Leads Comets at ACCAC Championships

Full Results Gilbert, Ariz. – Coconino Community College’s Mauricio Gonzalez leads the comets at the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Championships. The comets competed at their first ever ACCAC Championships at Freestone Park in Gilbert, Arizona. Gonzalez led his team with a 47th place finish over the 8k cross country course. CCC’s Noah Rhoden placed 57th and Levi Conery closed out the racers with a 59th place showing. Gonzalez’s time of 32:47 officially established a men’s 8k school record. Mesa Community College won the team title with 33 points. The comets will compete next at the Vaquero CAMPY Invitational hosted by Central Arizona College on October 9th.
